The day the world wont forget affected radio playlists nationwide. Clear channel who owns huge swathes of American radio, circulated a memo of songs that were too hot for airplay, especially in the immediate days of the attack.
Clear channel denied the existence of this list, but some clever geezer found it and made it public. Since then they have made it clear that it did not come from the management - it was a round robin list that other station added songs to then passed around.
Some of the song choices make sense in the direct aftermath, and some are just plain puzzling.
Lucy in the sky with Diamonds? St Elmo`s fire? It`s easy to mock after the fact, but I`m no big fan of Clear Channel and what they`ve done to radio. They`re not exactly famed for having a decent playlist. For the us brits, imagine if Galaxy FM and Heart FM teamed up, and took over nearly every station ... (Shudders)
Taken from wikipedia, the great fountain of knowledge ...
