The Romantics / Video

Photo: The Romantics Location: Detroit (1979) Back Cover for "First Back In Line" single

Heard this song for the first time last night and even though it`s over thirty years old its still fresh as fuck.  Simple beat, simple chords but what a floorfiller. This is such a saturday night song, and it`s a shame I`ve never heard it until now, it is The Romantics "What I like about you".
They formed in Detroit the late 70s, taking their band name from the fact they got together on valentines day 1977. Although punks through and through, they got the label of new wave by the time they were shifting sales. They hit the big time in 1984 ... and then that`s when the problem started. The drummer left, then the remaining band were tied up in a lawsuit over their managers contract for several years. The management slowed royalty payments to the band during this period - this made the band effectively stop in their tracks for a few years.
Since then though, with a few line up changes - with members of blondie - they`ve been recording ad touring - AND they`ve gained control over their songs now - It`s happy ending a lot of bands and artists dont get to see, with some financially ruined or artisticly bounded and gagged  in the process (Joan Armatrading, George Michael etc).

Anyway. Crack open the beer. Open the window. It`s the Romantics. If you want more, go directly to
