Sumfink Like Disco Vol1 The NYC 80`s Stylin` Mixtape

Sumfink Like Disco Vol1 The NYC 80`s Stylin` Mixtape

HAVE YOU GOT LOVE FOR EIGHTIES? THE EIGHTIES?

BRAND NEW VIDEO

Pretty much hot on the heels of “Punk Rock`s Club 2 - Science & Technology” VHS is another one! (mops brow) It`s a celebration of the early 80`s .. and a little of the late 70`s for fun - this is one of the (musical) reasons why I have posted very little.

GOODBYE TO THE DISCO NIGHTS

You may have heard the soundtrack before - it`s an edited version of the Sumfink Like disco Mixtape. Songs from the 21st century recut to the disco of the 20th century - if you haven`t. I`ve cut this VHS mixtape as a farewell to the Sumfink like disco series of mixtapes i started back in January. Having put so much work into 1 hour customised disco hybrids, I thought it would be cool to bring one of them to life.. They took up a mighty chunk of my life, but if you`ve followed my tumblr, you`ll be aware of that! Vol.2 became a bit of pain .. and ended up being popular as f**k !! My favourite is still Volume 3 .. you`ll find them on my mixtape page… Here`s the soundtrack for those who missed it the first time round….

Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body (Edit)

Aphex Twin - Windowlicker

Snoop Doggy Dog - Drop It Like It’s Hot

Chemical Brothers - Under The Influence [excert]

Warpaint - Elephant

Transvolta - Disco Computer

Bloc Party - The Warning

SUPER 80`S VIDEO STYLIN`

We go super 80`s NYC crazy and pay homage to the tactile, fun (and eventually plastic) side of 80s technology. Back then a imaging process called `scanimate` was popular - which is kind of like a bridge between the analogue world and the digital domain. Being a kid at the time, I`ve always liked how it looked - it gave TV of the time more warm, fuzzy feel compared to later developments of the decade where graphics became more angular, bold and smooth .. the more corporate look was in and 70`s technology was out.

Big huge thanks to all the people I will never meet who created the images and those who uploaded them you tube - having recorded these snippets of history and kept all these years - even though VHS as a format is obsolete.

I dont do these videos very often, but I release custom mixtapes every month through twitter and facebook and often tweet links to documentaries & good music by unsigned artists, so say hello .. it`s always cool.

Occupy Wall St - Video Rant.

Occupy Wall St - Video Rant.

You got two minutes? It`ll fly by quickly with this video.  I don`t know  who this guy is, and I got the video from my pals on google+ (yes, there is a thriving community on there!) This guy sums up everything that I feel about the current situation with Wall St.

My situation isn`t bad, but if the studio went down then I`d go with it. Booking time to be creative isn`t one of those important purchases and if things get worse for the musicians in my city then I know that the first bit of spending to go will be on me.   I can see it all around me in different areas of work. Some of my family who live in a different part of England and are involved in education and youth work  are facing an uncertain future in terms of job security, my mates in who work within  construction felt the pain acutely, and all have families.

I see a lot of little people taking the hit, and the people who made it all happen doing everything not to be made responsible and are closing ranks with fellow wealthy individual and politicians.

So all those people camping out in the cold, right now, I salute you. Thank f**k someone actually cares about society as a whole.

I wish for change .. and I thought Obama was it a few years ago, but like Roger Daltrey said "We wont get fooled again"

Occupy Wall St

Occupy Wall St

Im not a US citizen. I don`t live in New York. But this movement which has brought together people from different social groups who have one thing in common. They all want the banks and the financial giants of wall street to play fair.

In a move taken straight from Tahir sqaure, people have decided to occupy wall street until their demands are seriously considered.

This is a job that easier said than done.

Right now, they are on the 7th day of their protest -  and there`s been next to nothing in terms of coverage on TV. What coverage there has been have mostly mocked the protesters and their ideals.

Whole communities are suffering because of the bail outs that the banks got, and there seems to be indifference by politicians to the long term scale of the problem.

These people on the streets who do care about issues that Wall St isn`t concerned about are the one`s who firmly believed in Obama`s call for change. What they got in return was nothing.
The horrible truth is this.

People like us don`t really count.

The US print and TV media have given scant coverage to a peaceful movement of their own people - yet Tea party rallies get top billing.

You vote for someone to tear everything down that got america and the rest of the world in debt. But in actuality, all you got was no change.

Four women got maced in the face whilst breaking no laws, and that`s met with public indifference

You think you live in a democracy, but it`s not quite like that. Yahoo, blocked all emails to the occopy wall street organisation and any emails mentioning the actual protest - which they called "an accident"
This is not the first time that the things we use to communicate have been taken down because of a protest.

All the time a message is being rammed home. "..  we are tolerating you for now, but there`s nothing you can do, christ we own the brand names your protesting in, we own the supermarket that you bought your water from and we have enough money to keep you where you are"

The last the thing in our arsenal is our votes. But is there anyone to vote fort? Just as in England the main difference between the parties is the logo. Everyone has friends in the city, everybody went to school with people who are now in the city, and their funding mostly comes from the city, so who`s tune are you going to dance to?

These protesters are not terrorists. These are your kids.

I used to think of America of the embodiment of freedom when I was a lot younger - you can do and say what you want and can achieve anything. I`m a lot older now and wise enough to that it`s never been the case really.

The whole world can see now that`s the name of the game is not your common rights as a citizen but how much influence you have and that depends on the money in your pocket. That`s why your kids future was used to pay the bills of the bankers, so their kids don`t have to.  All that rubbish that the politicians spoke last summer  about how great it was that the common folk were standing up for freedom in the middle east -  using our tools of social networking. But I`m seeing the same kind of reaction. Indifference followed by show of strength. No listening to voters here.

All I want is a fair system. But there`s lot`s of people who are rich, connected and have no conscience have no interest in that.  The banks have had us scammed for YEARS. Thing is, there`s a lot of us who don`t know what`s going on , or don`t care because right now, their needs are being met.

If there`s going to be a similar occupy- type - protest for the bank of England then I`ll lend me support anyway I can, and if I can get there, I will.

Apologies

Apologies

I`ve been busy recording and haven`t been paying much attention to the blog. I still haven`t made the full move from tumblr so until now I saw this blog as being unfinished and just posted a few things on tumblr whilst working on remixes for a few people.

Um, turns out I was wrong! I really thought people wouldn`t reading this blog as i haven`t tweeted posts or put them on facebook/ google pages ... but I log in to do some odds and sodds to find people have been reading the blog.

Oops!

I do have shiteloads of stuff to say and show, and I also have two other blogs, a studio, and musical projects all over the place ..

I`m still about, as soon as my current backlog gets manageable then I will endeavour to post once a day.

Crikey. Thanks.
