Documentary / Japan - The Land of rising suicide

Tojinbo on the coast of the Sea of Japan have cliffs that have a dark side -- many Japanese come here to end their lives by throwing themselves onto the jagged rocks and crashing waves. Amazingly the local council actually advertise to tourists that this is one of Japan's popular suicide spot as a selling point.  Japan's suicide rate is one of the highest in the world -- more than 30,000 people kill themselves every year. This film from 101 East / Aljazeera talks to volunteers who patrol the cliffs just to talk to others contemplating suicide, people who were close to jumping, and examines the causes behind such a decision and the cultural significance of suicide in Japan.
