Having lived most of their short lives in North Korea, these four young people were lucky to escape over the border to South Korea. The journey itself was fraught with danger, but gaining freedom from a life of fear and hunger drove them all on. But when they arrive they experience a culture shock, from the myriad of food available in shop windows to the flashy K-pop on the TV. In fact, it is a common experience for young people from North Korea who resettle in the south to feel anxiety about this new world and sometimes come into conflict with the school system and the law.

A short film, apparently missing background music, but I think music in the background of an interview colours the emotive content of a video too much and should be used sparingly... and often on youtube that isn`t the case. What you get here is the raw interviews with no intros, short but a great insight into what would seem to be on the outside "a happy ever after" situation.. but life is never, never that easy.

It`s hard to classify this video - it`s certainly informative and yet the style of The Pinky show is very endearing.Give it a spin and you`ll see what I mean. Apart from that, this video gives our perceived view of this island of natural beauty a polite kick in the teeth.

As with most things, we take things at face value - the thought of Hawaii conjures up daydreams of grass skirts, palm trees and sunshine. It might give the impression that the islands history is as placid as it`s outward appearance... But it`s status as the 50th state of the U.S isn`t straightforward - in fact it`s pretty dodgy. The island became a part of America by some snake-like manoeuvring, chiefly because of it`s strategic significance of being a halfway post before the newly "found" Far East - where other nations were currently staking claims in that continent...... and America was missing out.

The natives did had something to say about this - but did they get heard? Watch the Pinky Show to find out. I recommend going through all their videos - "Illegal Immigration" is a good one to watch. The matter-of-fact and also inquisitive nature of the characters makes the delivery of information suprisingly effective. Don`t be put off by the "I`m watching a cat on the internet" feeling - this is serious stuff, you will learn something new.
