TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THE WORLD , YOU HAVE TO SEE IT

This short film tells the story of Joe ManHwi Han,a Korean by birth who moved to America as a child, but then as a teenager had to leave forcibly ..... to return to a country he didn`t know and struggled to connect with. There`s a very interesting portion at the beginning of the film, in which he asked his fellow students a few current questions, just to see how familiar they are with the world that they live in. What`s astounding is .. the questions aren`t obscure at all .. and Joe, (who also directed the film) his world view was once like that - until his family`s visa ran out and suddenly he was out in the big wide world ...

TUESDAY NIGHTS IN GLASGOW JUST GOT A BIT MORE INTERESTING

Usually life drawing takes place in a college or a community hall, and generally with some kind of tutorial involved, but in Glasgow there`s a little bar called "The Flying Duck" (Cush name!) where on every tuesday a nude model takes centre stage and life drawing nights are held there.Although on the face of it it sounds weird for something like this to happen in a bar .. but with the lovely surroundings and a bit of drink it`s proved to be very popular .. and no, it`s not the leery kind of customers! The Flying duck prides itself on being slightly different to the rest of the nightlife on offer so this isn`t a "the night we let the arty people take over" situation.

It really looks like a really fun place to have as a local. Must say, Glasgow is underrated as a place to go out and have a good time. The people are good natured too - despite the stereotype. I`m not an artist so I won`t be turning up on tuesday, but the rest of their weekly events are right up my street, have a look yourself.

SWANSEA. SPAIN. SWEDEN. ITALY.

Although billed as a documentary, it has no narrative other than dance .. and yet it works. It almost qualifies as a music video as it`s about the same length of an average song. Put together by CQD - a collective made up of people from all over the world, this is their first film shot over four locations - Malmo (Sweden), Swansea (Wales) Genova (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain). They are all about making the spaces where we live, work and relax everyday a place where expression can flourish. There`s something liberating about seeing people move gracefully in public spaces, whereas usually things like this are usually staged in a aesthetically sterile environment - principally to focus your attention. CQD make the location integral to the dance itself- it`s not merely a backdrop .. and it`s beautifully shot. It takes the "art" out of the discipline by expressing it in the real world, where all the emotion contained within the dance becomes strikingly clear.

An uplifting three minutes,and while this is not the message or theme behind this work .. it does remind you how the human experience transcends locations and languages -

A LOOK INTO AMERICA`S JUVENILE PRISON SYSTEM

This 30 minute film was shot in Chicago and put together by two young people of that city who have become dismayed at the rate at how many young people are put through the system and how it is disproportionally black males who experience this. The film-makers talks to kids who been inside and what it did for them, the people work within the school and judicial system and the people who work with young people in general.

THE PEOPLE WHO ARE THE FIRST TO FIND THE COOL STUFF

THE ONES WHOSE IDEAS CATCH ON, AND BECOME MAINSTREAM

WHAT MAKES AN INFLUENCER?

Although this documentary seems a little .... impossibly cool .. it`s based in New York, and the people within have cooler - than - thou jobs, and the cinematography is slick .. But it`s a interesting piece on how modern day culture is shaped by the few in their own little way. It raises questions that most creative people wrestle with everyday - Can you be still be an `influencer` if you`ve taken the corporate dollar? Should you stay underground or go mainstream?

What you might take away from this film is that, influencers must live in one of the big cities and have a`lifestyle`.. this isn`t true, and you know it too. Everyone knows THAT someone who is into stuff way before everyone else, whether it be through fashion , music, film ,TV , Science, technology or design. Although modern day pop culture has the feel of "the emperors new clothes" about it when it comes to things like `brand awareness` .. `going viral`... "like me on facebook" (guilty!) where the only thing generated is an emotion; not money, not a tangible product you can touch there`s something endlessly fascinating about the way trends emerge, change and morph into the next `big thing` , how they become part of the landscape without actually existing and who are people who are always on the hunt for it.
